It is time to start to plan for our 3rd annual Winter Market. The Cultural Arts Department needs to get some publicity out now. They would like pictures of word that is representative of what you would be selling at Winter Market. If you have any pictures please send them to Andrea Anderson by Monday, May 21.

Michigan Weavers Guild May Annual Luncheon, Fashion Show and Moth Market

Saturday, May 19, 2012, 12 p.m. is the date of the event. Board members will provide dessert and other members are asked to bring a dish pass. Silver, paper goods and beverages will be provided by the Guild.

MWG interprets Fashion Show very liberally. Anything you have made is considered fashion, and if you can find a way to wear it, so much the better. But, bring your items, whether or not they are wearable.

Moth Market is your opportunity to dispose of unwanted items from your stash, or equipment you no longer use. You set the price, collect the money and pay the Guild a 10% fee. Come prepared to buy or sell.

BEAD LENO WORKSHOP COMING NEXT FALL

Martha Reeves gave a wonderful presentation on bead leno at our April meeting. Everyone was excited about the beautiful texture of the fabric produced, and her explanation de-mystified the technique. It was decided to go ahead with a workshop in October 2013 because there was sufficient interest.

The workshop will be October 18 – 20, 2012—that’s Thursday, Friday and ½ day on Saturday—from 9:30 to 4 on the full days and 9 – 12 on Saturday.

More details will be coming about the workshop, but reserve these dates if you are interested in the workshop.

MWG proudly offers our own Member, Nancy Peck for her weaving workshop:

“EXPLORING

SUMMER AND WINTER”

March 22-March 24, 2012

Nancy is well-known in the weaving world for her handwoven garments and for her various positions in the Handweaver’s Guild of America.

Summer and Winter offers an excellent opportunity to explore a weave structure, allowing a variety of patterning possibilities from one warp. A very useful, shaft efficient, threading arrangement, it can be used to produce exciting fashion and decorator fabrics. We will start with traditional summer and winter weaving methods and go on to learn how to weave variations.

A 4 or more shaft loom is required for the workshop.

The workshop will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Southfield, Michigan.

Workshop Hours:

9:30 – 4:00 p.m. 3/22 & 23

9:30 – 11:30 a.m. 3/24

A lecture on Summer and Winter by Nancy will follow the program on Saturday, the 24th from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

The fee for the workshop is $125 for Michigan Weavers Guild members and $150 for non-members.
